Raw Or Unraw???

First, I want to say thank you to all the sweet, positive and reinforcing comments on my last post. You girls truly made me feel better and I wish I could carry you all around in my pocket with me all day!! No joke :)

Hey Loves, Sorry for no post yesterday but I have been hard at work in the kitchen since Sunday. More on that in a sec. I will just try and give you a few highlights from Sun/Mon.

Sunday before leaving to go pick up the little one from my mother in laws house I had this for lunch...
Raw salad with broccoli slaw, massaged with guac and a side of acorn squash globs. Before leaving I also mixed up a batch of Raw Mango Bread...
That's sprouted wheat berries going into the mix. I couldn't really form loaves with the dehydrator that I borrowed (thanks HEABS), so I just kinda globed it on hoping for the best...
..by the way I used the wrong tray, but I later fixed that. I put that on to dehydrate and then we headed on our marry way. We had this lovely view on the way...
Monday, I hit the Y and then came home to some dark chocolate, peanut butter topped oatgurt...

Morning sanck was another swirly shake...

Lunch was Gena's raw marinara, de-rawed with turkey, served over a bed of greens with globs and globs of hummus and a half of an acorn squash on the side....

(someones always tryin to get in on my goods)

Somehow between Barnes and Noble story time, 2 grocery stores and karate I managed to cook up 2 new recipes. Also, my Raw Mango Bread was finished....

  • 2 cups sprouted wheat berries (or other grain)
  • 1/2 cup chopped apple
  • 1/2 mango, peeled and seeded
  • 2 large dates
  • 1/3 cup fresh orange juice
  • 1/2 cup maple syrup or honey (I used a mix of the 2)
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 tbsp mango cubed
  • 2 tbsp apple or other fruit cubed
Puree grains, 1/2 cup apples, 1/2 cup mango, dates, o.j., honey and olive oil. Transfer to a bowl and stir in chopped fruit. Form dough into loaf about 1 1/2 inches tall, 3 1/2 inches wide and 6 inches long. Dehydrate @ 90 degrees for 13 to 17 hours.

Pretty simple, no?

Before getting dinner ready I made a new hummus recipe (thanks Clean Eating). It was for a "Raw" Beanless Zucchini Hummus.

  • 3 raw zucchini peeled and chopped
  • 6 tbsp lemon juice
  • 4 cloves garlic
  • 2 tsp paprika
  • 2 tsp sea salt
  • 1/2 tsp cumin
  • 1 tsp turmeric
  • 2 pinches cayenne pepper
  • 1/2 cup raw tahini
  • 1 cup sesame or sunflower seeds, soaked
  • evoo, for drizzle
Place all ingredients, except oil, into blender or processor and blend until smooth or desired consistency. Serve with raw flax crackers of ww pita.

3 oz. contains 140 cals, 11 grams fat, 8 carbs and 5 grams protein.

Leave it to me to buy tarragon instead of turmeric and pine nuts instead of sesame or sunflower seeds. Honestly I don't know what I was thinking but I went ahead and made it anyway. Turned out OK but I did screw up 2 main ingredients.

For dinner I made my Black Bean Turkey Burgers with fresh green beans and Curry Coconut Chickpeas. Are you tired of the recipes yet? Well, so am I but to bad :)
What would I do without Clean Eating Mag?
  • cooking spray
  • 1 cup napa cabbage or bok choy
  • 1/2 cup onion diced
  • 1/2 cup red bell pepper, diced
  • 1/2 cup light coconut milk
  • 1 tsp fresh ginger, shredded
  • 1 tsp fresh garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp curry powder
  • 3/4 cup chickpeas, canned and drained
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • pinch of black pepper
Preheat nonstick frying pan over medium heat. Add cabbage, saute until it shrinks down. Add onion and pepper. Cook 2 to 4 minutes.

Add 1 tbsp coconut milk, along with garlic, ginger and curry. Saute 2 min. Add remaining coconut milk, chickpeas, salt and pepper. Heat until warm and serve.

serves 2: 179 cals, 5 grams fat, 27 grams carbs, 5 grams protein.

Heres my dinner plate...
I snacked on to much hummus before hand so I wasnt very hungry.

Did my Y class this morning and then came home to a piece of Raw Mango Bread smothered with one side pb the other crunchy almond and a few slices of banana and deli meat...
I Wasnt very hungry this am. That was my first piece of the raw bread and it was extremely yummy especailly with the pb :) I only had a small piece because I am sure it is very caloric.

CONFESSION OF THE DAY: I hate it when chicks come to the gym early in the morning with full on make up and giant hoop earrings. I also cant stand it when they are obviously coated in 6 layers of perfume. *Gag*

What are your gym pet peeves??

  1. Your swirly shakes are so pretty! Also, I think I might be able to actually make that beanless hummus!! I'm so excited because there are so many raw recipes that I haven't been able to try since I don't have a food processor or dehydrator.
Gym pet peeve: People on the phone while they workout.

  2. My gym pet peeves is probably when people are being SO loud. Or when they just talk and talk and talk. Haha, I've got nothing against talking, but after a while it can get annoying.
    Great recipes and eats!
    <3 jess

  3. I agree with the princesses at the gym, especially if they act helpless and flirty and typify every "girly" gym stereotype...grrr.

Then there's "super sweaty guy who didn't wipe off his equipment," "talks on a cell phone exerciser," "wears jean shorts and boots to the gym guy," the "doesn't take a hint that you want to work out and not talk about absolutely nothing person," "grunts way too loud doing nothing guy" and "flexes in the mirror after every set guy."

Sorry. I used to work at a gym.

  4. Are we tired of recipes yet? NO WAY! Keep those recipes coming girlfriend! You are such a wonderful cook (I know, I haven't eaten your cooking before, but I just know k? LOL!), and I for one love seeing and hearing about all your kitchen masterpieces!

    Missed your post yesterday ;)

Oh, and dito on your pet peve. I workout in my home gym with a friend/neighbor and she usually shows up in the mornings in full makeup....lol I'm like what the heck?? I just laugh at her...ha! Whateva!

I just love chickpeas don't you? Have you ever tried roasted chickpeas? Delish!

  5. Oooh I want to be carried around in your pocket. But on one condition: You must feed me scraps of that raw mango bread ;)

  6. Oooh love all the recipes you are trying out! The mango bread sounds especially interesting! Haha, I actually have turmeric, sesame seeds, and sunflower seeds on hand, plus home grown zucchini. Maybe I should take a shot at this recipe?

Your recipes are convincing me to check out clean eating magazine. So many raves from the lovely bloggers :)

Yeah, I don't like inhaling perfume while I'm working out either. Would hoop earrings get in the way too? Or maybe I'm the only one who's almost fallen off a treadmill...

By the way, thanks for letting me know about the food at baseball games thing! I totally did not know!!!

  7. Wow- the chickpea salad sounds amazing! As does that mango bread :) (actually, ALL your food does!)

Pet gym peeves- when people take FOREVER on a machine then don't wipe it down when finished, when you just get on a machine and somebody stands there waiting...um, hello? I'd like more than 5 seconds on the bike! Also talking on cellphones should be banned.

  8. holy cow girl I am impressed.. everything looks totally delish! I have to try the bread for sure..

oh and the other day at the Y there was a chick on the stairmaster dancing up each step.. swing her arms and waving her gym towel around.. it was a hoot.. but very distracting..

  9. oh my goodness, the mango bread sounds great.

  10. Wow, all of your eats look amazing. Keep 'em coming! I hate it when people I don't even know try and give me advice on form, the "right" way to do something, etc. I want to say, "if I wanted your opinion, I would have asked!" :)

  11. Ha ha - I feel the same way about made-up women at the gym early in the morning. What are they thinking. However, my favorite is when I would hit the trails for an early morning run, and run by someone who reeked of perfume. At 6 AM...really?!? Why I ask, why?

No worries about the ice-cream Justine. You eat so well 99.5% of the time. I think its good to shock the system sometimes. We need to surprise our metabolisms every so often. :)

Your mango bread sounds awesome - glad the dehydrator worked for ya, and Mmmm...turkey burgers. I need to make those again!

    Looking forward to Thursday.

  12. i must make those chickpeas asap! yum.

i have so many gym pet peeves; it's kind of a problem. definitely agree with yours. i also can't stand when people watch me or look at the stats on my machine - everyone should mind their own business!
