Zoo, Birthday, And Gluttony

A little weekend recap. Friday, was tons of fun. Kim and I took the kiddos to the zoo early morning in hopes of beating the heat. I think their favorite part was the reptile house...
We walked pretty much the whole zoo, the reptile house twice and then we sat down for lunch. I packed lots of fruit...
A peanut butter sandwich for the little one and a turkey, hummus, tomato, spinach and bell pepper one for me...
Group shot...
That was the highlight of my Friday besides finding out that I am severely claustrophobic by sliding down a 50 ft., 115 degree, twisty, dark, enclosed plastic kids slide.

I had a blast Kim, cant wait to get the kids together again!!

Saturday was one of my nieces sweet 16. Before leaving I did some "raw fusion". I made a raw pasta with zucchini and a raw pasta sauce using this recipe and on the side I had a large salad topped with gobs and gobs of hummus. It was almost to pretty to eat, but not quite...
One more for good measure..
Oh yeah, and I de-rawed it by adding some turkey from my stuffed peppers :).

The birthday girl...

While at the party I had the huggest plate of fruit ever!!! After leaving the little one off with her granny for the night the man and I headed off for some dinner and a movie (Hangover). We went to a local restaurant called Septembers (only because we had a gift card that needed to be used). They brought us bread....
I think I had just one piece. I also had a glass of Riesling...
The man ordered some spinach and artichoke dip (*enter expletives*)....
Of course I freakin ate some.

For my meal I took the menus spinach salad, deconstructed it, took bits and pieces from other menu salads and made a new menu item :)....
The man ordered the most manly caloric thing on the menu...

1/2 rack ribs, huge jass loaded baked potato, and cheese with a little mac.
I then proceeded to ruin my some what balanced meal with this evil, evil, evil, evil, evil, evil, did I say EVIL? concoction...
Yes, that's the devils soup consisting of birthday cake ice cream, cookie dough and chocolate chips. Its so evil that it leaves you wanting to puke and then go back for more!!! I. Ate. The. Whole. Thing. and I am not proud. The responsible and balanced thing to do would have been to go home and make some yummy banana soft serve with raw chocolate sauce.

I will now leave you ashamed by my gluttony. Hope your weekend was more balanced than mine :).

CONFESSION OF THE DAY: I have horrible eaters guilt. The fact that I ate this ice cream when for one, I was already about to bust, two, I am allergic to dairy and three, I could have gone home and made an equally good, way more healthy treat will haunt me the rest of the week. Maybe even longer.

  4. Well, I can definitely commiserate with your indulgence, that will now haunt you....for longer than it should.
However, the posts above are so true! Maybe if we ALLOW ourselves to acknowledge the occasional over (sometimes very) overindulgence we wouldn't be plagued by so much guilt!........maybe.

Oh well, what's done is done correct and today is a new day! Look forward to your next post!

  6. don't feel bad Justine- your diet is so healthy, so much of the time...an occasional indulgence is good for the soul ;) All in moderation, right? It's not like you eat stuff like that every day.

The zoo sounds great- aside from that slide! EEeek...I swear, stuff designed for kids makes me shiver at the thought!

  7. i love that you created your own menu items. i do that sometimes too!

remember that part of a healthy diet IS indulging sometimes! that dessert looks wonderful, and if you enjoyed every last bite, then it's even better. i'm sure you'll just go back to your normal way of eating, and it will balance itself out. :)

  10. Haha, I always de-rawfy my raw creations too. It is still great to add the raw pasta in the meal though :D

Don't fret about that ice cream, Justine! It really isn't that much and you eat seriously so healthy most of the time. Eek, I had more splurges like that over the weekend--I tend to have lots of guilt too!

Great to hear you had a blast this weekend!!!
